Personal Home Renovations

OBJECTIVE
When we bought our home in 2018 we loved the neighborhood and bones but weren't in love with the interior aesthetic. We decided to do a complete overhaul of the house and so the planning began!
ACTIONS
As the homeowner and design architect, I studied the existing conditions, consulted with structural, electrical, and mechanical specialists on major changes, 3D modeled the entire house and property in Sketchup to produce basic floor plans for contractors and engineers, handpicked materials for design aesthetic and oversaw the construction administration of the project. The renovation included demolition of most rooms down to the stud, removal of several walls to create an open floor plan on the main floor, conversion of the upper floor from 3 bedrooms to 2 bedrooms and a new owner suite layout, completely new kitchen including all cabinets, appliances, tile and countertops, all new lighting both recessed and hanging fixtures, stripping of paint on original brick fireplace, new paint, all new trim, exterior and interior doors, replacement of all stair handrails, new flooring throughout, new airconditioning system, and full smart home integration of sound, lighting, locks, appliances, garage door openers, cameras, and security system.
IMPACT
A happy family that now loves most aspects of their home. 😉

Kitchen - After - A leak was found behind the box of the kitchen sink cabinet which caused us to replace all drywall and insulation and gave us the opportunity to replace the cabinets and layout the kitchen in a more efficient manner. This also allowed us to add more cabinet space with the full-height pantry. The tile selected was hand-painted for our project and the countertops are poured in place concrete featuring a concrete waterfall on the face of the center island.

After - removed all interior walls between the kitchen, dining, and front room to create an open floor plan. All flooring, trim, and light fixtures were replaced.

Basement - Before

Basement - After - We were hoping to keep the wainscotting and coffered ceilings and upon further inspection found that they were riddled with holes and had mold from a recent basement flood. All new gypsum board, flooring, trim, interior doors, and a new wet bar were added to the space to make it into an adult space for our billiards table. A new in-ceiling surround sound system was installed as well as all-new recessed and hung light fixtures and a fun new chalkboard style wall to make the space more playful.
